Our Journey: From Idea to Platform

Musulmanka began as a modest academic initiative in 2018, founded by a small group of cultural historians and social scientists. Our initial goal was to create a curated digital archive focusing on the often-overlooked narratives of women in Muslim communities across Central Asia and the Caucasus. The first year was dedicated to meticulous research, building partnerships with regional universities, and digitizing rare photographic collections and literary excerpts.

By 2020, the project evolved into a full-fledged public platform. We launched our first thematic online exhibition, "Veils and Vistas," which explored visual representations in early 20th-century art. This milestone marked our shift from a private archive to an open educational resource. Today, Musulmanka stands as a structured, neutral space for scholarly exploration, hosting curated studies, visual essays, and historical timelines, continually expanding its focus to include North Africa and Southeast Asia.

Our Mission & Values

Musulmanka is a dedicated platform for exploring the cultural history, social roles, and visual representations of women in Muslim communities across diverse regions. We carefully curate materials on traditions, historical contexts, artistic depictions, and social transformations reflected in culture, literature, and art. Our project is designed for users seeking to engage with the topic through a neutral, educational lens—free from religious instruction or practical advice. We believe in fostering understanding through structured research and respectful presentation of heritage and identity.
